56 years old Kenny Wong (黃德斌) worked for TVB for 25 years and decided to venture outside after filming his last drama, My Commissioned Lover (婚姻合伙人) in 2017.
Based on understanding, My Commissioned Lover series was the catalyst which made Kenny rejected to renew contract with TVB. As he was given the male lead in Speed of Life and The Executioner (刀下留人) drama 2 years ago, Kenny felt unhappy with the supporting role in My Commissioner Lover series and had lesser scenes than Matt Yeung (楊明) and Luk Wing Kuen (陸永). An insider said: “Before renewing his contract, Kenny felt very disappointed when shooting My Commissioned Lover drama as Matt plays the male lead and Wing Kuen has more scenes than him. He is downgraded to the third supporting role and nobody will feel happy about it.”
Kenny joined the industry through modelling and the acting classes in TVB in 1988. He proceeded to shoot pornography movie, Erotic Ghost Story III (聊齋三之燈草和尚) after TVB refused to renew his contract in 1993. His career had no improvements but Kenny managed to gain recognition after shooting A Kindred Spirit (真情) series upon returning to TVB in 1997. He became the hot favourite to the film producer after 2004 and filmed many drama such as The Dance of Passion (火舞黃沙), When Heaven Burns (天與地) and Beauty at War 2 (金枝慾孽2). Kenny also bagged Best Actor in a Supporting Role Award (最佳男配角獎) representing The Dance of Passion series in TVB.
In end 2017, Kenny’s contract with TVB officially ended and he decided to develop his career outside. Apparently a few months before his contract expired, TVB begun to discuss with him and tried to persuade him to stay by increasing his wages, but Kenny had already made a firm decision to leave.
