TVB arranged 9 artistes to share their life stories in the variety show, Wishful Living (如果這樣生活) so as to realise the attitude of the local people. On 3rd June 2019, the programme aired its debut and Chris Lai (黎諾懿) interviewed a French private kitchen chef in China Dali. It became the highlight upon conversing in Mandarin in Hong Kong ascent and Chris posted a message on Instagram earlier: “On Monday and Tuesday, I will be speaking Mandarin in Hong Kong ascent and hopefully everyone will understand. It does not matter if you fail to and treat it as watching Korean drama, since there is subtitle.”

Throughout the show, Chris spoke Mandarin to a French chef and said seriously to him while eating beans together: “I assume it is good for the guys and I must eat more, as I want to have a daughter.” Despite trying his best, it is uncertain if the chef understand his Mandarin and becomes a heated discussion once broadcasting the programme. The netizens commented his Mandarin language was better than Ekin Cheng (鄭伊健).

When mentioned about the discussion among the netizens, Chris accepted a telephone interview from Ming Pao (明報) and said while smiling: “It is more daring in the second episode. I have to speak Mandarin in the show and already tried my best.” Lastly, he agreed with the netizens that his Mandarin language was better than Ekin.
