Hong Kong has been descended into chaos since July 2019 and it leaves the local citizens in terror. The protests were formed after the government amended the Fugitive Offenders and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Legislation (逃犯條例). On 21st July, a mob dressed in white tops armed with weapons attacked the commuters in a metro station in Yuen Long which enraged the whole world. Other than the dissatisfaction about the government, TVB also comes under attack and the news broadcasted by TVB becomes a heated discussion online. Yet, another incident happened again on 24th July.
TVB news presenter, Maggie Leung (梁凱寧) and the journalist, Michael Chugani (褚簡寧) hosted the news program (睇新聞，講英文) and tried to discover the reason behind some Hong Kong citizens speaking English rarely. In an episode on 17th July, both discussed about “the bill is dead” (壽終正寢) as announced by Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam (林鄭月娥) and it was alright until some netizens discovered that episode was removed on 24th July. Although it can be found on TVB website and the search engine, Google upon typing the program and word, die in one’s bed (壽終正寢), but it is no longer placed as the highlight of the program and netizens suspected TVB was doing a “review”. When East Week (香港01) checked with TVB, it had no response until now.
In addition, some netizens pointed TVB reporters believed the company was neutral upon doing the review: “Let’s send it to them and see what they say.”
Apparently, the word (壽終正寢) is found in The Investiture of the Gods (封神演義) novel and it refers to dying at home and at an old age.
