On 20th July 2019, 64 years old Simon Yam (任達華) was stabbed by a knife at a business event in Zhongshan and underwent a surgery at a local hospital immediately. He returned to Hong Kong on the same night and was hospitalised at a hospital in Hong Kong Island. On the following day, Simon went for a second surgery because of his fingers injury and was discharged from the hospital on 24th July. He was currently resting at home.
Simon appeared energetic and his right arm was bandaged upon discharging from the hospital on that day. He expressed the surgery was successful but his fingers required a longer time to recover: “I can stand it.” When asked about his current condition after a week, Simon replied to Apple Daily HK (蘋果) via a text message: “Thank you. I am recovering well.” His wife, Qi Qi (琦琦) and daughter, Ella Yam took good care of him and she responded through a message on 31st July: “Feeling slightly better. Thank you.” Qi Qi also disclosed Simon could only go for physiotherapy after removing the bandage.
