Because of the 2019 Hong Kong anti-extradition bill, it causes dissatisfactions from the citizens who formed demonstrations and protests at the street. They raised 5 requests to the government and Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam (林鄭月娥) has yet to reply. In order to demand for the response from the government, the citizens decided to go on strike on 5th August 2019 and some TVB staff are participating as well.
Based on the information, there are shootings for 3 TVB drama on that day. The sitcom, Come Home Love: Lo and Behold (愛‧回家之開心速遞) and new drama, Amelia’s Rhapsody (愛美麗狂想曲) starring Ali Lee (李佳芯) have location shooting and in the studio room, while the filming for another series (網絡騙案) portraying Samantha Ko (高海寧) is in the studio room. The cast team members for the drama have received official notifications that they are required to work on 5th August. HK01 (香港01) managed to contact Koni Lui (呂慧儀), Pal Sinn (單立文) and Chow Ka Lok (周嘉洛) who participated in Come Home Love: Lo and Behold sitcom and when asked if they were needed to work on 5th August, Koni said: “I have to check with the crew team and no updated information until now.” Pal said: “I have not check the notice and unsure if need to work on that day.” Ka Lok said: “I have not receive any notice yet.” In addition, some TVB staff are pointed to apply medical leave deliberately but it is believed that they will not use this method due to the work ethics.
In the discussion group on 2nd August, some netizen posted a letter written by TVB staff that they came from different departments and had continued the “battle” with the citizens since June. As for the police using violence, beating the reporters and medical staff, it was similar to the mob dressed in white tops hitting the commuters in Yuen Long metro station. They also felt disappointed upon seeing TVB reported the news in a biased way and said: “There is no way for us to turn back and we will be joining the strike on 5th August, in order to force the government to agree to our requests. If Carrie refuses to give in, we will definitely continue the fight.” As a result, the discussion group is full of notes related to TVB staff supporting the strike on 5th August.
At the same time, another netizen created a post about CCTVB released a notice related to the penalty for illegal activities (CCTVB出通告將嚴肅追究不合作運動) and uploaded a memorandum issued by TVB to the staff in Broadcast Operation Department (BO) on 2nd August. The content stated that the company will pursue the responsibility if any staff fails to report to work without valid reasons, because of the recent illegal activities. According to the news source, the head of department might consider to dismiss the staff who participate in the strike.
