As the pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong is getting worse in Hong Kong, China demands the artistes to pledge their loyalties to their country. After CCTV (中央電視) launched the campaign to “protect the national flag” (我是護旗手), many celebrities such as Jackie Chan (成龍), Eric Suen (孫耀威) and Kathy Chow (周海媚) recorded short video clips to “protect Hong Kong” (接力守護香港). Subsequently, other artistes including Sheren Tang (鄧萃雯), Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼), Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅), Ada Choi (蔡少芬), Sunny Chan (陳錦鴻) and Michelle Yim (米雪) announced their love for the country.
On Weibo, Michelle forwarded a post, “Hong Kong is always part of China” (香港永遠是中國的一部分) reported by CCT on 21st August 2019. She left a message: “I love China and Hong Kong! Hopefully there is peace and harmony in Hong Kong again!”
In addition, Sunny shot a video clip and said: “I love China and Hong Kong! Every Chinese citizen should protect Hong Kong and I love my country.” He also emphasised he was a Chinese and Hong Kong actor.
Finally, Irene Wan (溫碧霞) shared her beautiful photo and posted a message: “I love Hong Kong and China! We are Chinese citizens and let’s protect our country together. Hopefully there is worldwide peace again!”
