In June 2019, TV Queen Ali Lee (李佳芯) posted a message on Weibo about the people heart were distorted and not the world and another text related to urging the public to register for the citizenship on Instagram angered many Chinese netizens. Despite making a clarification, but the netizens continued to blow up the matter and demanded her to be “frozen” by TVB. According to the news source, the broadcasting of Ali’s new drama, Death by Zero (殺手) was suspended and her female lead roles in Who Wants a Baby 2 (BB來了2) and Legal Mavericks 2 (踩過界2) series were affected as well.

When asked about “frozen” by TVB during an interview at Tseung Kwan O on 23rd August, Ali replied she would accept the decision made by the company: “I am a reactive person and believe the firm will make the best arrangement after a serious consideration. My work is not affected for now and I am currently filming new drama, Amelia’s Rhapsody (愛美麗狂想曲) which might take several months to wrap up. (Is Death by Zero series suspended?) I heard that it is supposed to be an anniversary drama but is suspended and I am clueless about the reason.” She added the shooting for Who Wants a Baby 2 series was postponed to next year and was uncertain if she would be playing the female lead again. As for Legal Mavericks 2 drama, Ali did not receive any notification and say: “With regards to my other work, I have not heard any complaints about the advertisements from the clients and will focus on doing my part well. Hopefully it will be resolved soon.”

In addition, corporate communications department in TVB responded to the issue related to Ali: “Because of Hong Kong protests and sudden violence problems, some artistes must be extra careful when working in Mainland China, as TVB shows and drama are airing over there too all along. Hence, the company must make some adjustments in the operations including choosing the role character and it is purely a business decision.”
