On 23rd August 2019, “white terror” descended into TVB which terminated 20 employees from fan-subbed, engineering, voice-dubbed, drama and 2 film directors and a coordinator for Come Home Love: Lo and Behold (愛．回家之開心速遞) sitcom. As some staff were suspected to involve in the 2019 Hong Kong anti-extradition bill protests, CEO of TVB, Mark Lee (李寶安) explained on the same day: “The company’s sales revenue is unstable because of the poor economy and political problems. Hence, restructuring and reducing manpower are necessary.” Subsequently, the dismissed employees created an online discussion in the forum and said: “We are a group of former TVB staff and would like to highlight that there is “white terror” in the firm all along. Please take note and be extra careful.”
In the afternoon on 28th August, another crisis happened in TVB and film producer, Jacky (李志倫) was fired together with his 3 team members and the variety show and drama teams, as he wrote “black and white is conscience” on 5 memos in the office. Apple Daily HK (蘋果) contacted Jacky and he replied via a text message on the same day: “Not talking about it today. Thank you for the concern.” Around 4pm, Jacky shared photo of 5 fingernails in black and white photo on Facebook and it appeared that he was hinting that somebody was trying to hide the whole plot and many people rooted for him.
Apparently, Jacky is Sandy Yu’s (余詠珊) favourite staff and produces countless of major scale shows such as Pretty Forty (女人四十), A Father’s Confession (爸爸的告白), (回歸二十周年大匯演) and PTU 2019 (機動部隊) drama. In addition, he is highly recognised for his contributions in Po Koi Charity Show (博愛歡樂傳萬家) by the organisation for the past 3 years. In June 2019, Jacky attended the worshipping ceremony for new drama (衝鋒隊2019) starring Alex Fong (方力申), Rosina Lam (林夏薇), Matt Yeung (楊明) and Sisley Choi (蔡思貝) but the filming was suspended due to the conflicts between the cops and citizens and Ms Virginia Lok (樂易玲) explained that the police force was extremely busy. Jacky was supposed to direct a film related to youngsters in mid September and his replacement is unknown for now.
Finally, Jacky posted online message and pasted a memo of black and white are conscience on the glass and a white memo about staying away from him in the office to show his support for Hong Kong protests. During an interview in mid August, Jacky expressed he was not afraid of the company reprimanding him: “No fear at all. I believe there is real Hong Kong boss and citizen in the firm.” Unfortunately, he was dismissed as well.
