TVB usually organises TVB Anniversary Light Switching Ceremony (台慶亮燈儀式) and TVB Sales Presentation (節目巡禮) every October and November. It will invite all clients from advertisement companies and announce its developments including the anniversary drama during TVB Sales Presentation in November. It is perceived as an important event as the clients are allowed to book the commercials for the following year.

However, TVB is boycotted by the public due to reporting biased news in recent months and it is forced to cancel certain activities. According to a reliable news source from Apple Daily HK (蘋果), TVB planned to combine TVB Anniversary Light Switching Ceremony and TVB Sales Presentation as one program on 8th November 2019 but it decided to cancel it as their clients might be attacked during the show. TVB will be continuing to host TVB Anniversary Gala Show (萬千星輝賀台慶) and TVB Anniversary Awards (萬千星輝頒獎典禮) on 19th November and December, and considering to add in the lighting event in TVB Anniversary Awards.

An internal staff from TVB told Apple Daily HK: “TVB places their clients as the top priority. Many advise them not to consider TVB for the advertisements. Initially, the big boss, Mark Lee (李寶安) wants to continue with the program but there are many youngsters in the firm and they are worried that they might cause trouble. Thus, Mark decides to cancel after conducting a meeting.”

When Apple Daily HK checked with Mark about the cancellation of TVB Anniversary Light Switching Ceremony and TVB Sales Presentation on 8th November because of the unhappiness from the clients, he replied via a text message: “I am not involving in the sales department and please check with PR department.” TVB Corporate Communications Department responded to the media: “It is unreliable news. Because of the current market situation, TVB has the right to make any adjustments and reinforce the communication method with our clients. We also need to introduce the upcoming shows to the advertisement companies.”

In addition, Run Run Shaw (邵逸夫) usually appears at the lighting ceremony and take a group photo with TVB senior management and artiste for the past 10 years. After his retirement, other hosts take over and Charles Chan (陳國強), TVB CEO, Mark Lee (李寶安) and General Manager, Cheong Shin Keong (鄭善強) appeared at the lighting ceremony during the show (TVB 50 + 1周年再出發) last year.
