70-year-old Damian Lau (劉松仁) is suspected to have a stroke. According to the news source on 16th January 2020, some media took photos of Damian looking thin and his right arm and leg appeared weak. He needed to use a crutch while walking and his index and “pinky” fingers failed to bend, and his current condition resembles to having a stroke. Damian appeared calm when the reporters interviewed him: “Hopefully I will be recovering soon.” From his response, he reacted and talked slower but remained quite energetic.
On the same day, Apple Daily HK (蘋果) texted Damian about his condition and he said: “Thank you for the concern. I am recovering well and please do not worry.” The reporters then sent 3 emoji to root for him and Damian replied with similar emoji as well. The male lead, Jonathan Wong (王梓軒) of the musical play (利瑪竇) responded via a text message: “He looks healthy during the rehearsals and performances. He did fall down while rehearsing and need some time to recover. Thank you for the concern.”
In recent years, Damian focused on performing in musical play and completed the sequel of the play (利瑪竇) with 8 sessions not long ago. Last week, Karen Mok (莫文蔚) uploaded photo of Damian, Jonathan herself at the back stage and Jonathan was assisting Damian, while standing besides him. Although he is rumoured to falling ill, but Damian continued to hold the play without any delays and was present at every session. As the play premiered on 1st January, Damian shared a group photo consisting of Kit Chan (陳潔儀), the staff and himself sitting in the centre and portraying a “V” sign on Weibo.
In addition, the news reported that Damian’s condition was becoming worse as his hands begun to shake and he had difficulty in speaking. He rejected politely when his friend recommended a famous doctor to him and is also pointed to learn “qigong” from a master in China. Lastly, Damian is suspected to seek help from a divine doctor and every consultation costs a hefty fee.
