A new virus outbreak has sickened more than 100 people in Wuhan and spread to Hong Kong. According to a news source, a Chinese man felt feverish while travelling to Hong Kong by high speed train. He went to Wuhan previously and was currently under quarantine in the hospital. Based on the information presented a few days ago, the new virus is highly infectious and the source comes from wild animals which could be bamboo rat and badger.
As it is spreading to the rest of the world slowly, it is vital for the artistes to be extra cautious when working in Mainland China. In recent years, Michelle Ye (葉璇) has been developing her career over there and urging people to stop buying wild animal meat in the market. She posted a message: “Let’s stop eating wild animal meat. I am reminded of a film producer telling us to eat the meats of bamboo rat and bat from unknown sources and some artistes refuse to eat. As we refuse to eat, they begin to bully us with the production team and tell the public that we are unprofessional and behave like a big shot.”
As Michelle revealed the terrible situation of working in China, many netizens were full of sympathy and felt disgusted about eating the meats of bamboo rats and bats. Michelle replied: “Yes. Someone even smashes the bat’s head and eat it happily in front of the camera. It is unbelievable. We believe it is unhygienic and unethical but the producer said we must eat it for the sake of the rating record. Those group of people who are willing to eat, they complain we are unprofessional and I understand it, since we have different perspectives.”
