Coronavirus is wide-spreading and it causes global impacts to all industries. Despite the lack of medical resources, the medical teams continue to work and take care of the patients. As Wuhan is the first city to be infected with the virus, many Western countries especially the US begin to discriminate Asians and the number of cases keep increasing.
Edison Chen (陳冠希) is currently living in the US and might face similar situation. In the evening on 25th March, he suddenly posted a message related to COVID-19 isn’t Chinese on Instagram and appeared to hint about his extreme dissatisfaction towards US President, Donald Trump (特朗普). Edison explained: “COVID-19 is a global problem, so STFU (Shut the f**k up) and stop being racist!”
After Qin Shupei (秦舒培) and Edison are married in 2017, they have a 3 year old daughter named Alaia and relocated to Los Angeles. As coronavirus is spreading like a “bullet train” in the US, the government issues new restriction to the citizens to stay at home. Edison and his family also obey it. In recent years, he set up his fashion business which is highly supported by many Chinese citizens, holds his concerts in Mainland China at times, and pledges his loyalty to China several times.
As for standing up for American Born Chinese people in the US, Edison won compliments from many Chinese netizens: “Edison, you show your humanity and we support you.” However, Tommy Yuen (阮民安) disagreed with it: “Natalis Chan (陳百祥), Jordan Chan (陳小春), Fala Chen (陳法拉), Adia Chan (陳松伶), Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) and all people with last name, Chan are silly people. Edison is one of them too and he cannot do it anyway. We know you love milk but fail to express it completely this time.”
Lastly, Tommy pointed Shawn Yue (余文樂) and Edison were exactly the same: “Edison, better not. Please say it with me that Wuhan has virus, Germany has measles, Japan has encephalitis and Africa has swine fever.”
