Marvel action film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (尚氣與十環幫傳奇) is premiering this week. It is the first time for Hong Kong movie king Tony Leung Chiu Wai (梁朝偉) to venture into Hollywood and he plays a villain. Recently, Tony accepted an interview from American magazine, GQ and disclosed his relationship with his father, other than promoting the movie.

When mentioned about his father worked as pub manager, Tony revealed his dad left home thrice when he was 7 year old and did not return ever since. In 1960s, it was considered rare to see broken families and he became an introvert person thereafter: “I was clueless at interacting with other people since he left me. Everyone was talking about their father and family happily and I decided to stop communicate with others.”

As Tony seldom played father roles, it turned out the reason was related to his dad leaving him: “I reject to play father previously as do not wish to remember how my father treats me. Hence, I love to watch films with my mother since little and treat Robert De Niro (羅拔迪尼路), Al Pacino (阿爾柏仙奴), Gene Hackman (真赫曼) as my idols, while my mother’s favourite idol is Alain Delon (阿倫狄龍).”
